LOGIC.co.idIndonesia’s Vice President, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has proposed incorporating programming, or coding, into the elementary and middle school curriculum. This initiative aims to equip Indonesia’s younger generation with essential technological skills from an early age.

Gibran shared this proposal with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Muti, during a recent meeting. “I suggested to the Minister in our last meeting that if possible, coding could be introduced as a subject in elementary and middle schools,” Gibran stated while attending a coordination meeting on primary and secondary education policy evaluation at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta, South Jakarta, on Monday (November 11).

Preparing a “Golden Generation” for Indonesia’s 2045 Vision

Gibran highlighted the importance of preparing Indonesian children to become a “golden generation” to support Indonesia’s 2045 vision. By learning programming, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning skills, he hopes Indonesia will be able to compete globally, especially with countries like India. “We must not fall behind India,” he added.

Commends Early Math Education Program

During the same event, Gibran also praised plans to introduce math education in kindergarten. He described this as a smart move to develop children’s numerical skills from an early age.

“Once again, ladies and gentlemen, to achieve Indonesia’s 2045 Vision, we need a golden generation,” Gibran emphasized.
