LOGIC.co.id – A heartbreaking tragedy occurred in BTN Kolhua, Maulafa District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia. Mbatti Mbana (44), a homemaker, succumbed to severe burns after receiving intensive care at WZ Johannes Hospital in Kupang. The incident happened shortly after she cast her vote at a polling station on Friday (November 27, 2024).
Kupang City Police Chief, Commissioner Aldinan Manurung, confirmed that the victim passed away on Sunday (December 1, 2024), at 2:00 PM local time.
“The victim passed away around 2:00 PM WITA,” Aldinan stated to Kompas.
Autopsy Conducted to Aid Investigation
Mbatti’s body was immediately taken to Ben Mboi Central General Hospital (RSUP) in Kupang for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
“The autopsy is scheduled for today to strengthen the evidence in the investigation,” added Aldinan.
Police are finalizing the administrative process to ensure the legal proceedings move forward smoothly.
Severe Burns and Husband Named Suspect
The victim suffered critical burns covering 90 percent of her body. Despite receiving intensive treatment at WZ Johannes Hospital, she could not survive the injuries.
This heinous act was committed by her husband, Gabriel Sengkoen (34), who has now been named a suspect. The incident occurred shortly after the victim participated in Indonesia’s general election voting process.
“The incident happened after voting. The victim suffered burns covering 90 percent of her body,” Aldinan explained.
Domestic Violence Case Draws Public Outrage
The domestic violence (DV) case has ignited widespread condemnation. Gabriel’s actions are viewed as a serious violation of human rights and moral values.
Authorities have assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated. Gabriel is currently in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
