Combs’ attorneys submitted the request in Manhattan federal court, where previous bail requests had been denied by two judges following his September arrest on charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which accuse him of coercing and abusing women over the years with the help of a network of associates and employees, while silencing the victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson, and physical assault.
He has been awaiting a May 5 trial at a federal detention facility in Brooklyn.
In their latest court filing, Combs’ lawyers are proposing a “far more robust” bail package that would subject the entertainer to strict 24/7 security monitoring and near-total restrictions on his communication, allowing contact only with his legal team. Despite the stricter conditions, they are still requesting a $50 million bail, the same amount proposed in previous filings.
The attorneys also presented new evidence, claiming it weakens the government’s case. According to the defense, the evidence refutes the government’s assertion that a March 2016 video showing Combs physically assaulting his then-girlfriend occurred during a coerced “freak off,” a sexually charged event referenced in the indictment against him.
This request marks the latest attempt by P Diddy to defend himself against the serious charges he faces. The court will soon decide whether the new evidence and bail package are sufficient to grant him temporary freedom ahead of his trial in May.
