LOGIC.co.id – Lion Group airlines will implement new baggage regulations for passengers starting December 1, 2024. The airline will impose additional fees for baggage items such as boxes, wooden pallets, and sacks that exceed specified dimensions or weight limits.
According to Lion Group’s Corporate Communications Strategic, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, the new policy aims to ensure passengers’ comfort and safety during travel.
New Baggage Policy for Organized Handling
“Passengers must pay attention to the size, shape, and weight of their baggage to comply with the standard dimensions of 35 x 35 x 30 cm. Any baggage exceeding these dimensions will incur additional fees,” Danang explained in a statement to Antara.
Certain baggage types are excluded from the Free Baggage Allowance (FBA) if they exceed size or weight limits. These include:
- Boxes
- Styrofoam containers
- Wooden pallets
- Sacks over 10 kg
If passengers’ baggage falls into any of these categories and exceeds the specified size or weight, Lion Group will charge an Excess Baggage Ticket (EBT) fee during check-in starting December 1.
“The minimum payment for excess baggage is 5 kg, or passengers may opt to ship their items via cargo services before the scheduled departure date,” Danang added.
Benefits of the New Policy
Danang highlighted that the new rules are essential to support the safety of passengers and their belongings. Limiting the maximum baggage dimensions allows Lion Group to maintain stability in the aircraft’s cargo space, reducing the risk of damage or leakage during handling.
Several benefits of the policy include:
- Safety and Orderliness of Items: Properly organized baggage minimizes risks of damage and ensures the safety of passengers’ belongings.
- Passenger Convenience: Standardized baggage size and type streamline check-in processes, saving time for both passengers and staff.
- Optimized Cargo Capacity: This policy ensures fair use of baggage space, allowing all passengers to bring their items without feeling limited.
- Cleanliness and Cabin Safety: Items like boxes or styrofoam, which can easily break or become dirty, will no longer affect the aircraft’s cleanliness.
Cargo Shipping as an Alternative
For items that do not meet the baggage requirements, Lion Group offers cargo shipping services through Lion Parcel or other cargo agents. These services allow passengers to ship larger or heavier items without the limitations of standard baggage.
“Shipping through cargo services provides convenience as passengers can send their items in advance without carrying bulky or heavy goods during check-in. This ensures a lighter and more comfortable journey,” Danang explained.
Cargo shipping also offers greater flexibility, including delivery to specific destinations, making it easier for passengers to receive their items as needed.
